Due to the pandemic and the lockdown restrictions, it has not been possible this year for our members to lay the Forget Never Project wreaths across the Borough.
The Internationally-recognised Basildon Borough First World War commemoration project lives on despite the problems faced by us all this year. Our ‘Young Twins’ (young members of the twinning project) have been engaging throughout the year with our twinning friends in Heiligenhaus in Germany and Meaux in France. We should have been meeting on the Somme in France as we have done for the past three years but sadly this has not been possible this year. Basildon Borough has a permanent memorial to the fallen in the First World War at Lochnagar Crater on The Somme and we were presented with our own copy of the “Empty Chair Memorial” last year which we proudly display at Wat Tyler Park, Pitsea. Young Twins have already laid wreaths at Wat Tyler, Pitsea Memorial, St. Martin’s Church in Basildon Town Centre and Wickford War Memorial. Arrangements have been made for additional wreaths to be laid at Vange Memorial and Laindon Memorial.
The photos show the wonderful efforts of the Young Twins.
